Mr. Ramsey has been a Counselor in Tonopah since 1999; working the first 4 years at Tonopah High School and since at Tonopah Middle and Elementary School as well as at Silver Rim Elementary. 

Born the 2nd of 5 children, February 19, 1943 in the Adirondack Mountains of northern New York, Mr. Ramsey joined the U. S. Navy following high school.  He trained in electronics, communications, SCUBA(frogman) and advanced combat skills.  His duties took him to some of the more exotic places in the western hemisphere including Morocco, Turkey, the Black Sea, Suez, Egypt, Tripoli, as well as Greece, Italy, Spain, Scotland, Ireland, the Arctic Circle, the Caribbean, Cuba, etc.  This experience sparked a life-long love of travel, and each Summer for many years he has lead groups travelling throughout Europe and North America.  It also helped him learn to speak Spanish, French, Italian, and a smattering of Gaelic(Irish) and German. 

After the Navy, Mr. Ramsey worked at a series of jobs while attending college part-time.  He has been an Electrical Contractor, Industrial Waste Treatment Plant Operator, Paper mill worker, Mosquito Abatement Technician, Sales and Marketing Manager, and Restaurant and Food and Beverage Manager. 

He is the father of four daughters, all College graduates. 

He began classes at College of the Desert, Palm Desert, CA and earned his B.A. in Behavioral Science with a Certificate of Advanced Study in Chemical Depencency Counseling from National University, La Jolla, CA.  He went on to earn his M.S. in Education with a Certificate of advanced Study in Counseling from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Plattsburgh.  He has done additional coursework at SUNY - Stony Brook and UNLV.

He began his counseling career with the Juvenile Probation Department in Riverside County, CA and then as Director for Alternative Sentencing in Warren County, NY.  Next came several years working as Counselor and Instructor of Psychology, Sociology, and Criminology at North Country Community College, in Saranac Lake, NY while doing his post-graduate study.  Next he worked for approximately 4 years at Orange County Community College, Middletown, NY and SUNY - Stony Brook.

In 1997 he moved to New Mexico where he became Counselor at Shiprock Northwest High School on the Navajo Reservation.  He was instumental in setting up an innovative program of Project-Oriented Learning, hands-on education focusing on such diverse experiences as Robotics, Animal Husbandry and Horsemanship, Environmental Science,  and Construction/Horticulture (building and operating a geodesic dome greenhouse.)

In addition to his duties at Tonopah Schools, he has run the Magic Program for UNR, taught Psychology for CCSN, and served on the Tonopah Public Library Board.  In his spare time he is a gourmet cook, photographer, collecter of Native American Art, plays golf, and the Highland Bagpipes, as well as several other musical instruments.  He is currently learning the Irish Uillean pipes.
